But for me, the best way to decide whether or not to promote a product is to try out the product for yourself, because nothing can give you a better insight than having it tried out yourself.
Alright, now we have the product, the rest is quite simple (please choose a product that you are familiar with. Otherwise, take all the time you need in order to do some research on it. Further progressing becomes easier and easier with every fact you know about your product).
At this point, it's time to share your knowledge with the world. There are tons websites where anyone can write an article on whatever topic he choses. Good examples are ezinearticles.com, squidoo.com or hubpages.com, but there are many many more.
When you write your article, make sure that in the end, you provide your reader with a link to your product, just in case he or she might be really interested and wants to learn more.
Next thing to do is to go to yahoo answers, answerbag, askville and other sites where people are seeking answers to their questions. Let's say, you're promoting a product on weight loss, so you go to these sites and search for the term "weight loss". You'll find plenty of people asking questions like "how can I loose weight without doing sports all the time and still eat whaterver I want?" and other stuff like that.
What we do now is that we write a short answer to their question with a link back to the article at squidoo or eza ect. so when the person is interested in finding out more on it, he or she will follow you to your article and maybe buy your product.
You can also do this with google, facebook, myspace groups and other social networking sites, where people are gathering together in order to discuss a specific circumstance like weight loss, dating and more.

A credible Web site's privacy policy will contain a statement like "We do not share personally identifiable information with other third-party organizations for their marketing or promotional uses without your consent except as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt out."
To sum it up: Taking surveys can be fun and you might receive many products for free, but earning big with it is the wrong perception, so watch out for scammers!
